On Saturday, October 24 we brought the event Keep a Smile On Your Faith™ to Hillcrest Covenant Church in Prairie Village, Kansas. God spoke to women through the Scriptures as we shared our personal stories and gave how-to strategies for believing God in tough times.

The Hillcrest team headed up by Kathy Schrock gave us a warm welcome and made the day a success. –We loved the lunch from Jason’s Deli and the fresh fruit, the professional tech guys, and prayerful attention to detail. We continue to receive emails with comments about the day. Here are just a few:

"Debi and Fawn spoke truth that was easy to understand and applicable. (They are also really fun!)"

"The worth and value of it was beyond anything I could pay."

"It takes it (faith) from head knowledge to application."

If you attended the Hillcrest event, we’d love to hear a follow-up on how your faith is growing!  Post a comment below with your story.

Mark your calendar for our next event on Saturday March 13 at Blue Ridge Bible Church in Kansas City, Missouri..

Saving Faith

by debiandfawn on September 28, 2009

Sometimes, a news story stays with you, simmering on the back burner of your mind and bubbling with questions. Such is the case with the headline that Susan Atkins died on Sept. 24.

The media identified her as a “member of the Manson Family.” She identified herself, though, as a Christian. In this video clip, she recited Psalm 23 with the help of her husband/attorney James Whitehouse. Among her final words were these: “My God is an amazing God.”

The issue of her salvation is a hot one among bloggers and story commentators: was she or wasn’t she?

Scripture says that salvation is by faith alone in Jesus Christ: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). Not “faith plus…” baptism, philanthropy, service, sacrifice, knowledge, position, tradition or connections. Just faith.

As we prepare for the Keep a Smile On Your Faith™ retreat on Saturday, Oct. 24, we’re grateful again for the simplicity of saving faith. Many people focus on faith as a way to sustain religious practices… or solve problems… or snag points with God. But for us, faith is “belief to the point of action.” We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, crucified to pay the penalty for our sin and resurrected to authenticate His every claim. We believed it to the point of action, and our salvation is sure.

But what about Susan’s faith? Is she in Heaven now? If she placed her faith in Christ alone, she is. A better question to ask is, are you headed there – by simple, saving faith?

Room 210

by debiandfawn on September 3, 2009

For us, nothing says "create" more than a clean whiteboard. Maybe that’s why we love room 210. Our church gives us the freedom to use any available room there as our “office,” but room 210 is our favorite. Can you guess why? It’s the whiteboard — a creative place where we can write our craziest ideas, and then erase them if they’re too wild or commit them to paper (or computer) if they’re good. It’s where we wrote the retreat, Keep a Smile on Your FaithTM.

Here we are in room 210 deciding which photo and logo to use at the top of this blog. The page you’re looking at is the result. We love it!

Where’s your room 210? Tell us where you feel the most inspired and what you love to create when you’re in that space. Better yet, send us a picture of you working in your sweet spot at blog @ debiandfawn .com (no spaces) and let us celebrate your creative space with you!

It was a getaway on a Saturday! We discovered a quiet place not too far from home where we could put on a pot of coffee and work, laugh, pray and plan. The reason? We’re gearing up for the Keep a Smile on Your FaithTM retreat on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Hillcrest Covenant Church in [...]
