What we learned on a weekend in St. Louis

ICRS_hotel_view_062810 The last weekend in June found us in St. Louis. (The pic at left is from our downtown hotel room.)

On Saturday, June 26,  we attended a lunch and afternoon workshops hosted by AWSA (Advanced Writers and Speakers Association, of which Debi is a member).

On Sunday, June 27, we gave a five-minute announcement at each of the morning worship services at Concord Church to promote the Keep a Smile On  Your Faith  event there on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15-16. Then Fawn headed back to Kansas City  in our rental car, and Debi stayed another day.

On Monday, June 28, Debi attended ICRS (International Christian Retailers Show). She saw many friends and colleagues she’s known for years in the Christian publishing  industry. (See her photo album on Facebook.)

Our  model for Keep a Smile On Your Faith™  is not  what “the industry” expects (let alone applauds). Just a few distinctives of our  model are: 1) we don’t charge a speaking fee; 2) we don’t ask hosts to guarantee a minimum love offering; 3) we don’t charge admission; and 4) we accept invitations to under-served churches in  rural, inner city and international settings.

We knew before attending these industry events that our model is different. So, seeing that confirmed at these events  didn’t surprise us. But the best part is, now we know for sure that  we don’t care. By faith, we’re flying under the radar and having the time of our lives.
